The History of LaSalle County Cruisers

LaSalle County Cruisers was initially formed in 1983 as an informational hub for the local auto enthusiast community in the LaSalle County region of Illinois.  This was, of course, before the days of wide-spread Internet networks and related automotive forums so it was sometimes difficult to find information for your project vehicle..  The Charter Members consisted primarily of individuals with specialized automotive knowledge (auto mechanics, body shop employees, auto parts suppliers, interior specialists, chromers, and just general gearheads).   This brought a large amount of automotive knowledge and expertise into one location.  So, the initial goal of the club was to promote sharing of knowledge and create a network of "connections" to benefit the members and the cars that they built, maintained, showed, raced, etc.

The first meeting was held on a cold day in January of 1983.  Some general guidelines were laid down that became a constitution and by-laws, and a brainstorming session resulted in agreement on a club name.  The rest is history.  Many members have come and gone over the history of the club, but there has been one constant  - other than a few "special" meetings, the Cruisers are generally still found in the Meeting Room at the Ottawa American legion on the first and third Wednesday of every month.

Unfortunately, over the years, we have permanently lost some members.  Following is a list of those that have passed while being a member - they are greatly missed, and all current members can thank these trailblazers that promoted the growth of a very successful club.
